Saturday 10 May from 10am to 1pm
Starting from the philosophy that anyone can get hold of a cardboard box, and a cardboard box can be anything, artist Simon Greiner will lead you through his approach to cardboard sculpture.
Simon will guide participants through various cardboard techniques to make a mask as a starting point, looking at how we see and represent the shapes that form facial features, and how to build personality and emotion in combining them.
The main aim of this workshop is to create a space for participants to play and explore, while making something with their hands. Participants will be encouraged to find a balance between sketching/planning and experimentation / improvisation.
Simon will demonstrate how to build out three dimensional forms by converting shapes into prisms, implying shape and form with curved strips of cardboard, and building texture by layering.
Learning outcomes:
Experience the meditative sensation of focusing on a creative project for 3 hrs.
Practice thinking about representation through abstraction.
Practice thinking three-dimensionally and visualising your idea.
Learn to embrace the limitations of your material. Practice improvising with shapes.
Learn techniques to manipulate cardboard.
The session is for anyone who wants to get creative in a low stakes environment. No experience is necessary. Age 18+.
